The Lagar de Varas do Cabeço das Pesqueiras was acquired by the municipality in 2007 and was the target of requalification in 2011. It is a building built in typical masonry of the region (shale and quartzite) that with the careful reconstruction it received, new uses were defined for the space of the Lagar and its annexes, in order to be visitable as a museum centre and to preserve and enhance the entire estate.
It thus represents a monument that documents all the historical stages of olive oil production, from the use of human and animal energy from hydraulics to mechanics.
The Lagar de Varas do Cabeço das Pesqueiras is presented in a territorial perspective framed in all types of heritage associated with the production of olive oil in the municipality, with historical and current testimonies: from the olive groves in the various stages of olive production to the mills of traditional and cutting-edge technologies currently operating.
