From the birthplace of D. Jorge da Costa (Cardinal of Alpedrinha) - the man who (it is said) won the Pope's approval for the Treaty of Tordesillas (1494), which divided the riches of the globe between the Portuguese and the Castilians - one could not expect anything else: the people from Alpedrinha knew how to choose a special place for themselves.
Planted on the southern slope of the Serra da Gardunha (and protected by the mountain from the north winds), with fertile land and abundant water, Alpedrinha - a village whose geographical surroundings are worth of the the classification of Mountain Village - has always been a rich land and refuge for wealthy people.
